Hey out there, all you baby fans. Good news! We had our 2-month visit at the pediatrician's today, and these guys are looking good! Here are the latest stats:
Maddy is 8 lbs 14.8 oz, which puts her in the 10th percentile. At last visit, she wasn't even on the charts at less than the 5th percentile. She is 20 1/2 inches long, which is still off the charts (less than 5th percentile), but she's getting there! Her head circumference is 14 1/2 inches, which is at the 10th percentile. Last time she was at the 5th percentile, so that's great!
Gabe is a whopping 9 lbs 4.6 oz! That also puts him on the charts for the first time at the 10th percentile. He is 21 1/4 inches long (less than 5th percentile). His head (get this) is 15 1/2 inches around, which puts him at greater than the 25th percentile. The boy had a big head last time (scoring just under the 25th percentile), and he has a big head still.
Where does he get it?
Anyway, Doc says they look great. The visit was a success, although very uncomfortable for all parties involved. Longest wait EVER. Appointment at 11:15, but didn't see Doc until after noon. PS, noon is feeding time for babies and pumping time for mom. Multiply discomfort by 10. PS PS, I of course arrived with a long list of questions, so much to Doc's chagrin this was no short visit.
But questions got answered and babies got cleared and then it was time for the grand finale: SHOTS! Oh crap. I thought I could handle it this time, but no. As I was standing with Maddy at the farthest point in the hallway from the exam room where Philip was with Gabriel who was getting poked 4 times, something occurred to me. The pediatrician's office is not a particularly happy place to visit. Maddy and I were looking at all the sickly children and the non-sickly children who were screaming from tiny rooms where they were getting needled, and we decided we didn't want to be there any more than we have to.
PS PS PS- Doc suggested 1/2 tsp of Mylanta for tummy trouble. We'll see how that works.
Here's a little perspective for you... before there were pediatricians, sick babies got treated like they were just little sick adults. Before there were vaccinations, babies were bled... or got common viruses and just died. Or went blind. Or were paralyzed and crippled for life.
ReplyDeleteAnd, sadly, that's still true in far too many places in the world.
It's good that there are pediatricians' office. Not the ideal place to hang out, true. But it's good to know that they're there when you need them. And it is wonderful that the two of you can provide that care for them.
And...btw...you are a MOST EXCELLENT MOM for doing the things that keep your babies safe... even when it's hard and makes you want to cry. How lucky Gabe and Maddy are to have you soothing them through the tough times of life!
